Introduction

What You Need to Know

Everything you need to know to reunite your family in Italy

The family cohesion residence permit allows Italian citizens and foreign residents to keep family members already present in Italy, typically on a tourist visa. It covers spouses, minor and adopted children, and in specific cases dependent parents and cohabiting relatives.

Foreign residents need at least two years of continuous residence and minimum income: €7,201 annually for one person, €10,702 with one family member, €14,204 with two. Suitable housing with a habitability certificate is required. For Italian citizens requirements are more flexible.

The permit grants unrestricted work authorization, National Health Service enrollment, and education access for children. After five years, family members become eligible for the EU long-term residence permit.
